    Week Four: Discussion #2

Think about Taylor Owen’s argument on digital democracy. Companies, apps as well as websites and social media sites we visit contribute to societal norms and behaviours amongst ourselves and our children. Should our data, or digital footprint be viewed solely as money? In other words, “I created it, I own it!” What implications could this have?

Societal norms are constantly being pushed and altered. Social Media and our access to technology has contributed to societal norms, behaviours and attitudes. Is digital democracy changing? Are our human/democratic rights changing?

Scenario for you to ponder:  I have a friend who posted a picture on her publicly accessed site through a social media platform, of herself. That picture was copied/taken/borrowed and used to promote their business/site. Who is the owner?

          Looking forward to this chat!
