What do you think about Squishy Circuits and their use in the classroom? Is this experience beneficial? Why or why not?
I borrowed a Squishy Circuit kit this summer with mixed interest. It certainly addresses the Grade 6 Science strand of Electricity. Beyond that, I found it has more to do with personal interest than making curriculum connections, compared to other makerspace activities we have done. That being said, it leads to a question about inquiry and the curriculum. In recent years, there has been a push towards more student centred learning and student interest driving our lessons. If students in younger grades had an interest in electricity, Squishy circuits would be a fun way to present the key ideas about electricity. This however, would take away from curriculum learning. There is also the issue of teachers and parents who might have concerns that students are learning information before it is addressed in the curriculum.
Hello. I'm having difficulty finding the LED lights. I don't live near Toronto so that store that Melanie suggested won't work for me. Do you have any suggestions?
I know that I have ordered from Creatron Inc | DIY Electronics & Robotics - Creatron Inc online and had my order shipped. I have also ordered from Amazon.ca, or Ebay....trust me, I've tried it all. I hope that helps.
