TeachOntario – Netiquette & Terms of Use (July 24, 2014)

User Conduct and Rules of Netiquette

As a registered user of this website, you represent your profession as an educator. Please conduct yourself online as you would in any staff room or in any professional discussion.

Read before posting anywhere on this website

As part of our commitment as Ontario's public educational system, TVO is pleased to provide an online opportunity to promote knowledge exchange amongst educators across the province.

PLEASE NOTE: Postings are not moderated prior to publishing – your blog posts, documents, photos, videso, etc. are viewable as soon as you publish your content. A Community Manager will review most postings, though not all, on a frequent basis. Should you identify content that is of concern, please contact the Community Manager (

Please abide by the following Rules and Etiquette for Posting:

  1. Post in a way that is respectful of other users. Personal attacks, name-calling, trolling (posting outrageous messages to bait people to answer, sowing discord, purposely provoking) is not acceptable. Similarly, if a user posts an idea you take issue with, intelligently challenge it - but attack the issue, not the poster.
  2. Please ensure you are posting to the relevant piece of content. Users are asked to read or view the content and thread before posting. Inappropriate posts will be removed.
  3. Before you post, browse and/or use the search tool to see if there has already been a similar discussion thread started.
  4. Please post in a way that is consistent with everyday conversation. For example, when you POST IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS, this is commonly considered to be shouting and should be avoided.
  5. "Bumping" or posting with the deliberate intention to keep a thread 'hot' is not allowed. These type of posts can be described as containing redundant information, gibberish or one-liners.
  6. Revealing personal information such as full names, e-mail, mailing address or other information that is invasive of others' privacy without their express consent is prohibited.
  7. Spam is not tolerated under any circumstance.
  8. The above rules and etiquette, where applicable, also apply to private messaging and public profiles.
  9. When you publish content or information using the “Public” setting, it means that you are allowing everyone, including people without a registered account, to access and use that content and information, and to associate that content and information with you (e.g. your name and profile picture).

Abiding by these Rules and Etiquette for Posting will help to make the online experience part of a vibrant community that all users can enjoy!

TVO retains the right to block any registered users who do not abide by these rules. These Rules may be amended as and when appropriate, without notice.
