With the abundance of information and knowledge at our student's fingertips, the inquiry-based learning teaching model is making a resurgence amongst educators around the world.  Mr. MacKenzie will walk you through several inquiry models beginning with a teacher directed framework and moving towards a student directed process.  Helping students brainstorm topics and discuss issues, formulating driving questions, planning and assessing a unit, and creating authentic work will be presented.  Building off this Mr. MacKenzie will walk you through the Four Pillars of Inquiry, his framework for harnessing student passions and curiosities that will guide curriculum and shape learning.  He will then move into the most empowering inquiry type, Free Inquiry, where student agency in inquiry is at its highest.  Mr. MacKenzie will share his Inquiry Proposal framework where students in his classes plan and pitch their Free Inquiry unit.  Helping students plan their unit using the tenets of Understanding by Design, tracking and keeping workflow organized and at your fingertips, and sharing learning with an authentic audience will be presented.  Many student examples will be shared throughout the workshop as well as resources for teacher use. During this workshop, we will focus on using Google Drive to save, share, edit and collaborate on inquiry projects.
