Teachers often express frustration that there isn’t enough time to cover everything in the math curriculum. What if, instead of working through each strand and each unit as separate entities, we covered the curriculum in an integrated way, making connections across strands? What if we revisited concepts multiple times over the course of the year in order to build upon students’ learning and understanding? We have had success integrating this spiral approach to learning with engaging activities. In this session, we will share our journeys; how we plan, advantages and disadvantages of spiralling, and how it has allowed us to rethink assessment. Come with questions and a willingness to interact and walk away with helpful ideas to use the next day. All levels K-12.
