Welcome to TVO’s mPower! In this video, we are highlighting one of our creative online Grade 1 games: Sport n’ Sort.
In this game, players visit a laundromat and develop their knowledge of Data Management by collecting, organizing, reading and interpreting data presented in tallies, bar graphs and pictographs.
[Game Sound]: Hang the uniforms on the line to dry.
[Game Sound]: Sort them by their team!
[Game Sound]: Tap submit when you're done.
In the first level, players sort team uniforms that have been washed at the laundromat.
Players click and drag the laundry items onto clotheslines and sort the items based on one attribute. If correct, stars burst on the screen.
[Game Sound]: All star sorting!
If the response is incorrect, the clothes wiggle and fall, and one clothesline is completed for the player.
[Game Sound]: Let's try sorting one of the lines like this.
[Game Sound]: Go ahead and sort rest of the uniforms by team.
In the second level, players sort sports equipment and construct a pictograph, using the tally chart provided.
[Game Sound]: Add an icon to the graph like this.
Hints are again provided to aid the player, if needed.
[Game Sound]: Here's a hint.
[Game Sound]: For this sport, we'll need 3 icons.
In each level, players are also asked to read and interpret the information on the graph.
[Game Sound]: Tap the bar on the graph that has 3 items.
[Game Sound]: You got it!
[Game Sound]: Great work fielding the questions!
By the end of the game, students should be able to collect, organize, read and interpret data presented in tallies, bar graphs and pictographs.
