Welcome to TVO’s mPower! In this video, we are highlighting one of our creative online Kindergarten games: Pattern Block Pictures

In this game, players visit a school and learn about Geometric Relationships by composing pictures, designs, shapes, and patterns, using two-dimensional shapes.

Players build puzzles using virtual pattern blocks by clicking and dragging the shapes to the shape outlines.

Players can test the pattern blocks by moving and/or rotating them.

If placed correctly, the pattern blocks snap into place. When players complete a puzzle, stars burst on the screen.

If the response is incorrect, hints are provided to aid the player.

One of the special features of the game is in the last stage, players have the opportunity to create any pattern they wish, to apply the learning from the game.

Patterns created in the last stage can be printed from the Community Gallery in the educator dashboard and used for communication and application of learning. This allows for assessment as learning and encourages peer and self-assessment.

In between each game stage, there is a fun activity in which players can further explore geometry by decomposing two-dimensional shapes into smaller shapes.

[Game Sound]: You cut the hexagon into smaller shapes!

By the end of the game, players should be able to compose pictures, designs, shapes and patterns, using two-dimensional shapes.
